James: The player starts the game with the ability to choose between three classes: the Scout, Scoundrel, and Soldier.
Scoundrel: The Scoundrel is the physically weakest class, but makes up for this by being small and fast. What this means in game terms is that the Scoundrel has the least Vitality points (hit points) but has the best Defense bonus (Defense is the same as Armor Class). The Scoundrel has access to the most skill points and he has a special attack very similar to the Dungeons and Dragon's 'Sneak attack.' He specializes in stealth and persuasion and should have a high intelligence, charisma and dexterity.
Scout: The Scout is a technical expert. He is an expert in computers and demolitions. He also has the unique ability to use 'implants.' These are surgical modifications that enhance his abilities. Only the Scout has access to these implants. His combat skills are average, and he gains more Vitality points than the Scoundrel, but less than the Soldier.
Soldier: The Soldier is physically the toughest of the three classes. He has the best combat abilities and is able to accumulate the most feats. He gains the most Vitality points and his combat abilities improve the fastest. He is very similar to the fighter class in Dungeons and Dragons.
While these are the starting classes, the player does have access to Jedi classes later in the game. Once the player has proven himself to be strong in the Force, he can be brought in and trained to be a Jedi. There are three Jedi classes - the Jedi Guardian, Jedi Sentinel, and Jedi Consular.
Jedi Guardian: The Guardian is a Jedi version of the Soldier. He concentrates more on battle prowess, defense and lightsaber training. While he doesn't gain as many Force points as the other Jedi classes, he makes up for this with more Vitality points and more combat feats.
Jedi Sentinel: This Jedi uncovers deceit and wrongdoing so that it may be dealt with. He is strong in battle, but he also uses cunning to accomplish tasks. He continues to focus on non-Force skills to compliment his formidable Force powers.
Jedi Consular: The Jedi consular uses the Force for knowledge and negotiation, seeking the most peaceful solution to every problem. He gains the most Force points, but is the weakest in combat.
